How To Combat Winter Skin 9

Winter skin is the worst. My skin gets as dry as the desert in the winter and I have tried everything under the sun to combat flaky skin and I wanted to share with you guys the best products that i’ve found. So, whether you have dry skin year round or your skin shrivels up as soon as winter hits i’ve got 6 of the best products for you. The only flakes you’ll be seeing are snowflakes! I am so sorry, I had to make the joke. Can we still be friends?

The first two products I wanted to mention are the Nivea A Kiss of Smoothness lip balm and the First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Overnight Mask. Nivea makes my favorite lip balm, ever. They are always so moisturizing and they have a wide variety of different “flavors”, tints and formulas their line. As for the overnight mask, i’m sure you’ve heard me talk about it in my favorite masks post (if not, go check it out!) but this really is fantastic for dry skin. The mask has thick, goopy consistency which just sinks into your skin beautifully leaving you to wake up with hydrated, plump skin. I’ve had this for a year now and it’s still going strong. I use it once or twice a week depending on how tight and dry my skin is feeling. Ps- this is PERFECT for flying. Slather it on and enjoy hydrated skin on a stuffy, dry airplane.

These next two products are both from Bath and Body works. I know, I know, they are way more well known for their awesome scents than the quality of their products but the True Blue line is actually pretty great. As gross as it is to talk about feet I had to mention this Cracked Heel Treatment with glycolic acid because well, I love it. Nobody wants to talk about dry, cracked and icky feet but it happens to all of us, especially in the winter. I personally love to use a ton of this and throw some socks on and just hang out like that for the day or even sleep in the socks overnight. (Bonus: This is great for dry elbows and knees as well!) The True Blue Invigorating Spa Scrub is the best body scrub i’ve ever used. Any salt scrub you use is going to be fantastic, but this one is amazing because it smells like Vicks. Imagine having a cold, a hangover, or just a stuffy nose and having the refreshing scent of Vicks envelop you as you slough off all the dead skin from you body. Ahhhh. So nice.

Once you’ve scrubbed off all of your dead skin cells the best thing do do is hop out of the shower and moisturize with a nice, thick body cream. I’m sure you and everyone you’ve ever met has tried a body butter from The Body Shop but this Vitamin E one is the one that trumps them all. Why? Vitamin E is fantastic for hydration and combining it with cocoa butter makes the perfect combination. Now that your body is moisturized, don’t forget about your face! The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Intense Moisture Cream is the perfect moisturizer for winter skin. I’ve used this for years whenever I have dry skin and it immediately soothes and softens. The thick consistency easily absorbs into the skin without leaving a residue which makes it the perfect base for makeup.

Question of the day: What do you use for your dry, winter skin?

  • I love the true blue scrub!

  • Even though this winter has been really mild in NC, it has done a number on my skin. I need to get serious about some scrubbing and moisturizing. You’ve got such great tips here!

    • Thanks, Claire! It’s always good to get into a skin routine, no matter the season .

  • It’s finally starting to get cold where I live in New York so I haven’t left the house without some form of Nivea & EOS brand chap stick!! Thanks for the other product tips! I have to find a Body shop near me!! =)

  • My skin is so painfully dry in the winter too. I’m going to have to try some (or all) of these. I actually haven’t tried the Body Shop body butter, at least not in the last several years, but I did get one at Trader Joe’s that was great. Vitamin E is fantastic though. I try to use as much of it as I can!

    • I swear by the Body Shop Body Butters in the winter. My arms and legs would be flake city if I didn’t use them.
