Re-using Birchbox Boxes! 5

Reusing old birchboxesRaise your hand if you have been stockpiling your Birchbox boxes and have no idea what to do with them. I know that’s exactly what i’ve been doing. They’re so beautiful but I haven’t reused any of them and they’re starting to take up a bit too much space. So, I did what any person would do when they need inspiration. I went to Pinterest. I found a ton of ideas for how to re-use my old Birchbox boxes but not too many detailed instructions on how to actually do things. So, I made up my own method and made a pretty sick 3 drawer storage container.

So, if you want to see a step-by-step guide to how to make one of these sweet Birchbox drawer units keep on reading!

reusing birchboxes

First you’ll need to gather your supplies.

You will need:

4 Birchboxes

A paintbrush

Mod Podge

Scrapbook paper

Xacto knife

Hot glue gun

reusing birchboxes 1

For this particular unit I used 3 box bottoms as drawers and 1 box lid as a catch-all to place on top.

reusing birchboxes 2

For the sides of the unit you will want to cut off two sides of 2 different lids. This will create your open front and top. Be sure to keep those cut off sides, you’ll need them!

reusing birchboxes 3

For one of your remaining lids you will want to keep the top and cut off all four edges. Cut the longer sides so that all 4 are equal and set aside, these will be the shelves for your drawers. If you can tell in the picture above you’ll have 3 shelves for each side and the longer portions in the middle will work as braces when we assemble the whole thing.

reusing birchboxes 4

Now, this step is completely optional but I wanted to create a more cohesive look so I opted to cover my boxes in scrapbook paper. Feel free to keep your boxes their original colors. If you do decide to wrap your project in scrapbook paper cut a piece slightly larger than your cardboard piece and glue the paper onto the cardboard. You’ll need your scissors or your Xacto knive to cut the edges so they’re smooth.

reusing birchboxes 5

Oh, I also put a little bit of paper on the ends of the strips of cardboard because I knew they’d be visible. Anyways, let your glue dry before starting the assembly!

reusing birchboxes 6

Okay, again, I didn’t take a lot of pictures of this because I was terrified of getting glue on my camera so i’ll explain as best I can. reusing birchboxes 7

Start with your two side pieces and place your bottom drawer in place. Use a pen to draw a line into the sides of the cardboard. You’ll use that line for your hot glue to place your shelf. Once those shelves are in place use the lid of the 4th box and glue it in to became the back piece which keeps the whole thing from leaning. From there keep placing drawers and drawing lines so you could place the shelves. The last shelves I put in were the easiest and then, just place your catch-all box on top. Use the two long edges from a box lid to secure the bottom portion of the drawer unit.

It’s a wee bit crooked but it’s beautiful and I love it. I’m going to label it and fill it with all my sample sized products. Adding drawer pulls would be a nice touch.

I hope you guys like this enough to try it out for yourselves! It didn’t take long, and it was fun to make! Be sure to pin this on Pinterest to save it for later!

Question of the day: Do you keep all of your Birchboxes?

October Birchbox! 2

October Birchbox // Being LeannaHello Readers!

Today I wanted to share with you my Birchbox from this month. I love seeing what people get in their monthly subscriptions because I really love finding new products. This month, I got products from 4 brands I had never tried before and I was so incredibly excited. Here’s what I got and what I thought!

October Birchbox // Being LeannaThe first thing that grabbed my attention were the two biggest samples. The Avene Thermal Spring water was the first of the two that I grabbed and I was immediately trying to recall any French I could. Thankfully, there were English instructions on the bottle. Phew. Basically, this stuff is for hydrating skin. It’s also great for relieving dry or irritated skin. PERFECT for the fall time. My skin is starting to get a bit dryer and spraying this on my legs before bed keeps me from scratching all night. I’ve used this every day since I received my box and will totally be purchasing it.

The second can that I picked up is the Klorane Gentile Dry Shampoo With Oat Milk. I have been riding on the dry shampoo bandwagon recently so i’ve tried a lot of different brands. This one is definitely one of my favorites. Not my absolute favorite, but it worked amazingly well and didn’t leave any sort of residue in my hair which is exceptionally nice. I love how this made my hair feel clean when I didn’t feel like washing my hair this past week (I hate being sick!) but, I especially loved that it helped add a bit of volume to my day old hair. Great to have in your hair arsenal for a bad hair day.

October Birchbox // Being LeannaNow, I know I said I loved those last two products, but these 2 are my favorites from the box. I fell in love with this mascara with just its first use. The W3ll People Expressionist mascara was everything I love all in one tube. The product lengthened my lashes without making them spidery and evenly coated every single baby lash with the unique little bristles on the tip of the brush. I can honestly say that my lashes have never looked better. Every lash was coated beautifully and it looked like I had fake lashes on. I was amazed.

My second favorite product was the Make Skin Illuminator. I’m not normally one to add shine to my fairly oily skin but this added just the right amount of sheen to highlight the right places without making me look oily. The shade of the shimmer is a bronzy color too so it adds some depth to my face while also illuminating. I really can’t say enough good things about this. My favorite place to put it? On my collar bone of all places. October Birchbox // Being LeannaAnd last but not least this sheet mask from Dr. Jart. I have not used this yet but I’ve been dying of some sort of cold/sinus infection the past week and didn’t want to waste what was sure to be an amazing sheet mask. Needing a tissue every minute or two is a sure way to ruin your pampering session. So, stay tuned to Instagram or Snapchat (beingleanna) to see what I think of this product, but if you can’t wait, check out this post with all of my favorite masks!

Recent Birchboxes, Still Worth They Hype? 2

I can never tell if you guys like reading Birchbox posts or not so I keep trying to switch up how I format them. Let me know what you guys think this time around! I’m reviewing June and July’s box posts all in one and i’m really just going to give a brief overview on what I liked and what I didn’t and how I feel about the service overall.

I’ve been getting Birchbox since December and I feel that’s a long enough time to form an opinion I can stand by. I love Birchbox. I know some people are getting bored with it but I’m still just as thrilled as ever when I get my box every month. I don’t often buy their products in full size, but that’s only because I have SO MANY samples to use up. I truly think the subscription service is worth it and for only $10 a month, you really can’t go wrong. Sure, some of the products aren’t my favorite, but I love trying out new things. Testing out new skincare, and makeup, and hair care is so fun for me that it makes these types of services totally worth it.

So, Do I think you should subscribe to Birchbox? Yes, if you love how cute sample sizes are. Yes, if you are looking for new skin/hair/makeup products to try. No, if you hate surprises.

If you’re interested in subscribing use my referral link here!

Anyways, that’s enough ramble for one post. Onto June!

June Birchbox //Being Leanna

Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo: Best dry shampoo i’ve ever used. And trust me, I have oily hair, I’ve tried a ton of dry shampoos. The smell is incredible and it soaks up oil in seconds. Never has my second hair looked so much like freshly showered hair.

Dr. Jart+ BB Night Beauty Balm: I am so confused at the purpose of this product. Why would anyone want a beauty balm for night time? In’t a regular BB cream enough? Plus, you can sleep in it. It has a tint to it, no thanks. (The white beads that turn into your skin color are pretty cool though)

Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner: Nope. I loved the texture and consistency of this but I don’t do blue liner. Sorry.

Supergoop! Everyday SPF50 w/Cellular Response Technology: You can’t tell in the picture but this is empty. I used it every day I was on vacation and I love it. It didn’t leave my skin with a gross residue like most sunscreens do, and it didn’t smell like sunscreen either. I really loved how I couldn’t tell that I had sunscreen on.

Real Chemistry Luminous 3 Minute Peel: Great, but I’ve received this before in a Birchbox.

L. Erikson Narrow Grab & Go Ponytail Holder: Why? Just why.

Onto July!

July Birchbox // Being Leanna

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray: This stuff is incredible. I’ve been wanting to try it ever since one of my favorite YouTubers started raving about it. I have super fine hair so anything that will add texture to my hair is great. This does the job, but it also keeps my hair nice and touchable, not crunchy. I’ve actually been able to have some messy buns that don’t look like teeny tiny buns. So happy about this.

Miracle Skin Transformer Body SPF20: Body bronzer that also has spf. Not awful, not great. Just meh. I’ve used the Sally Hanson versions of this and liked them way more. Plus, the drugstore version is much cheaper.

Stila Look At Me Liquid Lipstick- Beso: This is the nicest matte lip product I’ve ever used. It doesn’t dry out my skin at all. Most matte products make your lips gross but with this you still feel hydrated. Plus, the lasting power on this lipstick is phenomenal. I ate lunch with no problems. I only had to touch up the inner corners of my mouth throughout the day. That’s it! Did I mention it smells like vanilla frosting?

Supergoop! Anti-Aging City Sunscreen Serum SPF30: I really loved the Supergoop! product last month, and the one from April so I knew I was going to love this too. It feels amazing on my skin and has been working wonderfully as a sunscreen for me since I got this box a few weeks ago. I’ve already done some research to see which Supergoop! product I want to try next.

dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant: Loved the product hated the smell. I’m not a big citrus person so luckily the product was amazing. This was one of the best manual exfoliants i’ve tried. It’s very fine in texture but it still does an amazing job. Definitely won’t be repurchasing though.

Have you tried any of these products? Do you subscribe to Birchbox? Why or why not?

May Goodies

The products from Influenster were sent to me to test out complimentary, however, all opinions are my own.

Hello Readers!

Today I’m writing this on my iPad so please forgive any formatting weirdness.   May Birchbox - Being Leanna I wanted to share my May Birchbox as well as the #blossomvoxbox I received from Influenster. I can honestly say that this has been my favorite Birchbox so far. Here’s what I received:

May Birchbox- Being Leanna From Left to right-

Macadamia Professional- Nourishing Moisture Oil Treatment: I have been wanting to try this for ages. I’ve been growing out my hair so I’m trimming it less often than I should so, I want to do whatever I can to prevent split ends. My ends have been super dry and this has made my hair incredibly healthy and smooth. I’m definitely going to be purchasing the full size. You barely need any so the sample is going to last me a while.

Cynthia Rowley Beauty- Creamy Lip Stain: I never thought I’d like a coral lip color but one wear and I was obsessed. It actually looks nice with my fair complexion and I actually think it would look wonderful on all skin tones. I was also pleasantly surprised with how well it stained my lips. I barely had to touch this up throughout the day.

Beauty Protector- Beauty Wash Body Cleanser: This was my least favorite of the box this month and I still really liked it. It’s not bad but it isn’t any better than any other body wash. It does smell wonderful, sweet but not sickeningly sweet.

Marcelle- Hydra-C 24H Energizing Hydrating Gel: I’ve already bought this in the full size. It’s amazing for my skin when I get sunburned. Aka all summer. The texture is extremely smooth and it’s hydrating without being oily. This stuff feels so cool on my burned skin that I almost can’t wait for my next sunburn. Almost.

Harvey Prince- Hello: I asked Birchbox to stop sending me perfume samples because I love them all and the last thing I need is more perfume. Well, I still got one this month and I’m obsessed. It’s citrusy without smelling like cleaner and it’s floraly without smelling old ladyish. I’ve worn it every day since I bought it and it lasts on my skin for a surprisingly long time. I might have to buy the full size. Might.

If you’ve never tried Birchbox you really need to go do it now. For only $10 a month you get 5 samples. And, if you look around you can find coupon codes too. I’d give you my link but I’m iPad illiterate and can’t figure out how. Oh well.

Now, as for the awesome Influenster stuff I received?

This was my first box from Influenster so I wasn’t super sure what to expect but I’m really happy with what I received. They do ask you to do a lot of stuff and if you read my last post you’d know I’ve been super out of it lately so I’ve been struggling a bit keeping up with everything. Anyways…..

The Bear Naked snacks were delicious. I loved popping these in my morning yogurt for some extra crunch and nutrition. I just noticed that Target sells this brand so I’m going to stock up on the #livebearnaked granolas.

The other food I’m now utterly obsessed with? The Beanitos black bean chips. I love the different texture and flavor. I think I ate the bag of original in 5 seconds. The chipotle ones were a bit too spicy for me though. These haven’t replaced real chips for me but they sure are tasty.

The last food item was the Nasoya Pasta Zero. I was really intrigued by this but not a fan of the flavor. I made the pasta as per instructions and it still kinda tasted like dirt. :/ And to be honest, it kinda weirded me out that it was chillin in a bag of gooey water. At least I can say I tried. I had such high hopes for this. I might have to try it out from the grocery store. Maybe it’ll be a bit fresher.

All of the beauty stuff I received I really liked. The Australian Gold sunblock was surprisingly nice. I really don’t like how most sunblock smells like coconut so I wasn’t expecting much but the smell was okay. The best part about it was how not greasy it was on my face. It currently has a permanent spot in my purse.

The Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs was probably my favorite thing in the box. I’ve been meaning to try this stuff forever and it’s just as awesome as I was expecting. I have very fair skin so this is perfect for when I want to wear skirts or shorter dresses. I’ve got 2 weddings to go to this summer and now my legs will look fantastic.

If you’re tuning out because this post was so long, sorry. But if you’re interested in what I’ve got to say about this stuff let me know in the comments and follow me on social media to see more. I’m @beingleanna everywhere.

Do you guys use Influenster? How do you feel about it?

Thanks so much for reading!

March And April Birchbox!

Hello Readers!

It’s Birchbox time again! This month i’ve got March and April’s boxes because I didn’t get any time to try out March’s box before the end of the month. It showed up really late for some reason. Oh well. This month you guys get two for one! And, I’ve decided to only show the products I liked because, well, I don’t really see a need to be negative about products I didn’t like that could be really awesome for someone else.

Anyways, here we go!

March Birchbox_picmonkeyedIn March’s Box I received:

Amika Bombshell Blowout Spray– Not pictured

Cargo Swimmables Water Resistant Blush (Los Cabos)– I was really nervous about this shade. It’s an orangey color and it actually worked really well with my skin tone. And they were not lying when they said water resistant. This stuff lasts forever. Amazing.

Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint (Pearl)– Not pictured

Number 4 Clarifying Shampoo– I was so pleasantly surprised that this did not dry out my hair as most clarifying shampoos do. And, it smelled lovely.

StriVectin Instant Retexturizing Scrub– I had forgotten how much I loved this stuff. I tried it years ago when I worked at Marshalls (Yes, Marshalls often has StriVectin products) and it was so great for my skin. It really does brighten my skin which is perfect for the summer!

aprilbirchbox_picmonkeyedIn April’s box I received:

Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel– Remember that time I said I hated filling in eyebrows? This has slightly made me a liar. It’s not filling in at all. It’s just combing with a gel to keep them in place. Not the same as filling in! But, very effective at keeping my brows looking similar. win.

Neil George Body Wash– Not the bestest body wash ever, but the scent is so lovely it gets to stay in the picture. It’s described as a grapefruit-sage scent and it makes my nostrils so happy. Not to mention it wakes me up in the morning.

Supergoop! Advanced SPF 37 Anti-Aging Eye Cream– (wow that’s a long name for a teeny package) I haven’t used this long enough to really notice if it reduces dark cireles or minimizes fine lines as it claims but, it definitely depuffs my eyes in the morning AND it has SPF 37. Nuff said.

Temple Spa Peace Be Still Calming Face & Body Balm– Not pictured

Vasanti Cosmetics Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator– I’m starting to wonder if I just love every face scrub out there or if my skin is just really so much better after using a scrub regularly. Either way this one has the teeniest particles that still manage to exfoliate. My skin was so happy after using this but I have so many other face scrubs i’m probably not going to grab for this one for a while.

That’s it! If you don’t have Birchbox you should really subscribe. You get 5 different products every month tailored to you and it’s only $10! What’s not to like? Click here to use my referral code if you want to sign up! If not, have a wonderful afternoon!!
