2017 Product Empties

2017 Product Empties // Being LeannaHappy 2018! A few weeks late but better late then never, right?

I don’t know about you guys, but I love reading posts and watching YouTube videos featuring product empties. I love reviews of products and a product empties post is a great way to get a completely comprehensive review. I decided at the end of 2016 that I wanted to save all the products I used up throughout the year and write a post recapping everything. I wanted to share what I loved, what I didn’t love and what, if any I had repurchased. This is gonna be a long one so grab a snack and a nice cup of tea!

Hair Products

Herbal Essences Body Envy Volumizing Hairspray

This was good, but, not my favorite. It’s a hairspray, it holds my flyaways in place and it doesn’t feel crunchy in my hair. I liked this but i’m trying to find something spectacular. Comment below with your recommendations!

Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer

I actually went through 2 or 3 of these throughout the year. I blow dry my hair every day so a heat protectant is important to me. I’ve been using this for years. I’m sure there are better options out there but for the price, this drugsore version is amazing.

It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-in Product

One of my favorite hair products. I’ve been using oils lately but I used up this little guy on vacation. It’s the perfect leave in conditioner for my fine hair that has a big tendency to tangle.

Redken Control Addict 28

Another hairspray I tried in 2017. It has amazing hold and is fantastic for all my baby hairs but it is a bit crunchy. I repurchased but am still looking for something “wow“.

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo

Hands down the best dry shampoo I have ever used. This smells amazing and actually makes your hair feel clean, not just look it. I’ll be repurchasing as soon as I finish up the 8 random dry shampoo samples I have. Worth the price.

Beauty Protector Protect & Oil

As I mentioned, i’ve been using hair oils recently. My hair has been so damaged thanks to me constantly using heat on it that i’m doing what I can to keep it nourished. I got this sample in a Birchbox but I love it and will be buying the full size once i’m out of my other samples.

Skincare

Olay Gentle Clean Cleansing Cloths $4.99/30

Will not be repurchasing. I hated these, they didn’t do a good job removing my makeup and they left a film which just made me want to wash my face. And, the whole reason I use makeup wipes is to not have to cleanse my face at night because I wash it in the shower in the morning and my skin dries out if it gets washed too often.

Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towlettes $4.95/25

Loved these. I’ll re-purchase them for travel but not for everyday use. They work well but I have a favorite makeup wipe that I’ll probably continue to use forever. Curious what those favorite makeup wipes are? They’re next on the list!

Various Brands (?) Makeup Cleansing Wipes $3.99

I have been buying these for years from Marshalls and TJMaxx. They are so cushion-y and they get off even the most stubborn eye makeup. They’re insanely inexpensive and they come in packs of 60. If you’ve been here any amount of time you’ve heard me mention them before. The brand always seems to change for some reason but they’re always in the lime green packaging.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner $14.00

Favorite toner. I’ve used this for years and will continue to re-purchase. I’ve been using the Pixi Glow Tonic which is also great, but I prefer the Body Shop’s toner. Something about tea tree just makes my skin happy.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Cleansing Facial Wash $14.00

Even though my skin loves the tea tree toner, it did not love the face wash. This was a great cleanser but it dried out my skin a bit too much for me to use this as a daily cleanser. It was great for breakouts but not good enough to re-purchase.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream $20.00

I always have a backup of this moisturizer. It’s the creamiest, smoothest, most wonderful moisturizer i’ve ever used. I love other moisturizers but nothing compares to this baby. If you haven’t tried it I highly suggest it, if you have oily skin though, maybe just save it for a winter moisturizer.

Biotin $6.29

Enough said. I’ve taken Biotin every day for years. My nails grow like crazy and I hate to imagine how bad my hair would be without it.

Caudalie Makeup Removing Cleansing Water $28.00

Before I canceled my Birchbox I had tons of points to spend and this is one of the items I picked up. Holy moly is this great. I’ve been using the Garnier micellar water but the Caudalie blows that one out of the water. I already have re-purchased this in the full size.

First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Face Cleanser $20.00

Another product I’ve used for years. First Aid Beauty has some of my favorite skincare products but this one might be my absolute favorite. I love a milky cleanser, and I really love a cleanser that feels hydrating. Bonus: It’s also great at breaking down mascara.

Retinol Vitamin Enhanced Day Cream $19.99

Meh. This was okay. I accidentally purchased the day instead of the night cream. The night cream is far superior. That I’ve repurchased for years (from Marshalls/TJMaxx). It’s the perfect neck cream if you can get over the temporary old lady scent :]

First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Overnight Mask $19.00

If you’re looking for a super hydrating mask, this is it. I originally purchased this to wear on a long flight and I’ve been obsessed ever since. I use this about once a week, sometimes more in the winter and it has done wonders for my skin’s hydration/radiance levels. Re-purchase for sure – if it’s still available. It’s on FAB’s website right now as Final Sale so we’ll see.

Embryolisse Nourishing Moisturizer $16.00

This was another purchase with my points from Birchbox. It had amazing reviews but i’m not a fan. It worked okay but the packaging was so annoying to me that it’s not worth the re-purchase. I hate metal/aluminum packaging because it is too difficult to get the product out when you start to run out.

Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Serum $88.00

Unfortunately this sample was too small to be able to tell if it made a difference but, I love how this felt on my skin. This serum sunk in so well that I didn’t have to wait to put my moisturizer over the top and it felt like my makeup went on smoother when I had this on. I’ll be getting at least another sample of this before committing to a full size. What are your favorite serums?

Benefit It’s Potent Eye Cream $34.00

This was a great size for travel but that’s about it. I’ve tried a lot of eye creams and this one was nothing to write home about. Not going to re-purchase.

Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment $85.00

Love. Love. Love everything Sunday Riley does, except the prices. I’ve used this before so I was really thrilled to have a sample of this again. I wrote a full review of this and Luna that they sell together. Check out that post here

Clinique Repair Wear Laser Focus $49.50

Another product that wasn’t my favorite. It was also a sample size so there was no way for me to know if this was effective or not. Will not be purchasing but it wasn’t bad.

Makeup

L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion $16.99

I loved this foundation so much, it even made its way into at least 2 of my other posts. I put this foundation versus the It Cosmetics version in my This or That series (should I bring that back?) and in a post all about how to find the right foundation for you! The only reason I haven’t re-purchased this is because I have so many other foundations I want to try.

it Cosmetics CC+ Veil Beauty Fluid $38.00

Loved this as well, and it’s also featured in the two posts I linked above. Overall, I preferred the L’Oreal version but I’m absolutely loving the CC cream from it Cosmetics and will be repurchasing that once it’s empty.

Benefit Roller Lash $24.00

This was my absolute favorite mascara until recently. It stays on forever and the brush is magnificent. The short bristles get even the tiniest lashes and the longer bristles really comb out the lashes to make them super defined. I’ll re-purchase this because it lasts longer than its dupe so it’s perfect for days when I need that extra staying power.

Maybelline Lash Sensational $8.99

The aforementioned dupe for the Roller Lash! If you love Roller Lash, you’ll love this. The brush is similar, the formula is almost exactly the same, and the price is so much nicer. I’ve already got a new one that I’ve been using. Love.

Max Factor Masterpiece Max

This was good, but nowhere near as good as the Benefit or Maybelline mascaras. No need to repurchase.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes $23.00

I wanted to love this because I’ve heard so many amazing things. But, I just didn’t. The formula was lovely but I prefer the silicone brushes, they’re more effective in my opinion. I won’t be re-purchasing this, or any bristle brush mascaras for a long time.

It’s So Big by Elizabeth Mott $20.00

Another Birchbox product. Another meh product. I did not like the brush at all, even if I was a fan of bristle brushes this one is shaped strangely, small in the middle and big on the ends, makes no sense to me. It did hold a curl well so that’s something. Definitely will not be purchasing.

Benefit The Porefessional $31.00

If you know me or have followed this blog for long you know that this is a product I’ve sworn by for years. I have gone through endless tubes of this and I have yet to find something better. I’ve got another one going right now but I really want to find something else to try out so please, let me know some dupes for this!

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer $6.99

I’ve been using the Instant Age Rewind concealer for years and I wanted to try this out. I love it. I’ll be repurchasing it for sure. This is perfect for dark circles and red spots but not so good for acne spots. If you don’t need a spot concealer this baby is perfect. Will re-purchase.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Concealer $8.99

I’m using a brand new one of these currently and I will probably always repurchase this. The formula is great and it’s perfect for dark spots. It’s better at covering an acne spot than the Fit Me concealer but I don’t have that issue often so I love them both.

Benefit Gimme Brow

Never thought that I’d be the kind of person who does their eyebrows – and i’ll admit I don’t do them every day. But wow, this product is amazing. I actually just went to find the link and found out that its been recalled. hmmm. Not sure if it’ll be back so please let me know your favorite brow products for us blondes!

Physicians Formula Eye Booster $10.99

My favorite liquid liner. This has an actual brush applicator which makes application really neat and precise and the added lash serum inside is a great bonus. I only tossed the one I had because it had been months and was probably nearing expiration. This lasts forever and I’ve already re-purchased.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil $20.00

I will probably never buy another liner for my water line. This is the only eye liner out of dozens (really) that doesn’t irritate my eyes when I tightline which is every day. I’m obsessed with how easily this glides on and how long it stays even on the moistest (SORRY!) part of the eye. If you’ve never tired this you’re severely missing out. It’s so good, that if the price doubled i’d still buy it.

Juliette Has a Gun – MMMM 7.5ml $28.00

I have no idea how to describe perfumes but this is phenomenal. It’s on my list to buy as soon as I run out of another perfume because I have way too many as it is. Go to Sephora right now and smell it.

Marc Jacobs Daisy 10ml $27.00

I thought i’d love this but I don’t. I love a floral perfume but I think I was turned off because everyone owns this. I’d gladly take another sample but I don’t feel the need to own this one.

Random brand makeup sponges

Very descriptive, right? I got these for Christmas, tried them out and immediately hated them. They are not as good as more expensive sponges nor do they act very much like sponges. When dampened they just soaked up product instead of helping to blot it into my skin. Save yourself and just buy the more expensive version. You’ll notice a huge difference. In this case you get what you paid for.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge $10.99 (for 2)

I prefer these to the Beauty Blender. It works perfectly for applying makeup and the flat end makes getting the under eye area so much easier! I love my Beauty Blender but the size and shape of this sponge makes it worth my repurchase again and again. Plus, the price is better than a Beauty Blender.

is anyone still there?

If so, CONGRATULATIONS! You made it to the end. This was a doozy so thanks for sticking around! I thought this post was a fantastic idea until I realized just how much i’d have to write up. Perhaps i’ll break this down into 3 posts when I do this again next year. Yes, it’s happening again whether you like it or not because I love it. It’s a great way to see what I loved and hated throughout the year so I don’t buy anything that wasn’t awesome. Hopefully it’ll serve that purpose for you too! As always, pin and share this post if you found it helpful and let me know your favorite products in the comments below!
