Finding The Right Foundation For You 6

Finding The Right Foundation For You// Being Leanna

As a self proclaimed beauty addict, I have absolutely no shame in admitting that I currently rotate 8 different foundations. You read that right, e i g h t. No shame. Why? All of them are completely different and each of them work for me. Also, for those of you that can count, yes there are only 7 foundations in that picture. I totally forgot to take pictures of the Bourjois foundation I love so much. Because I forgot it, you’ll see an awkward insert of it with a friend below.

It’s taken me quite a while to find these foundations that I love and that work great on my skin so I thought i’d share with you all how I found the foundations that work for me. I’ll also be talking about different types of foundations and how to decide which foundation is right for you!

Finding The Right Foundation For You// Being Leanna

Powder Foundations:

//Great for oilier skin types as it also acts as a setting powder

//Easy to blend without smudging

//Achieve an airbrushed look with minimal effort

//Can easily look cake-y if you don’t have a light hand

//Not everyone loves a matte finish

//Can stick to those peach fuzz hairs on your face and make them stand out if not blended well

My picks:

// Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation (fair-light honey). This foundation is best when applied with a kabuki brush in circles all over the face. The powder is super fine which makes the product blend easily and not cake up. I would say this is definitely a full coverage foundation that lasts all day. If you’re interested Tarte is currently having their friends and family sale of 30% off everything. *not an affiliate link

// it Cosmetics Celebration Foundation Illumination (fair). This foundation is in the running for being my favorite foundation ever. And that’s saying a lot because you can see a list of 7 of my favorites right here. My skin looks flawless when I’ve got this on and i’m not exaggerating. Being a high coverage foundation you’d think it would look a bit thick on the skin but it doesn’t. The best part is that you can’t even tell that I’ve got foundation on when wearing this.

BB Creams:

//Every beauty balm i’ve ever tried has an spf in it

//They are much more moisturizing than a regular foundation

//The lighter coverage is perfect for some

//The lighter coverage is not ideal for some

//Some formulas have a bit of a grey undertone that you have to blend out

My Picks:

// Coola Mineral Sunscreen Natural BB Cream (natural beige). I cannot get over how amazing the texture is for this bb cream. It’s basically a mousse that you get to put on your face. The matte finish is to die for, especially because that’s so rare with any product with a sunscreen in it. Coola has some of my favorite sunscreens (this has spf 30!) and the second I got this in my Birchbox I knew their ‘makeup’ would become a favorite as well. If you can try this, just for the fantastic texture, please do, it’s so unique!

// Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45 (natural finish). This was the first BB cream I ever tried and that was years ago. Needless to say I fell in love and repurchased this beauty balm. The creamy texture makes this a dream to apply and it keeps my skin hydrated all day without looking oily. The high SPF makes this one of my favorite foundations to wear in the winter when the sun is actually closer and I tend to forget to put on regular sunscreen.

Liquid Foundation:

//You cannot go wrong with a liquid foundation, there are so many different products to try

//These give the best dewy finish for those that enjoy that

//Even full coverage foundations tend to feel lighter on the skin than their powder counterpart

//These can definitely look cake-y when applied too strongly

//Some foundations will oxidize on your skin throughout the day and make you a bit orange

My Picks:

// Loreal Paris True Match Lumi Cushion (W2). I won’t go on about this one too much because I’ve got a whole post dedicated to it that you can read here. The texture of this foundation is fantastic for a drugstore brand and I found that I loved it even more than a high end brand I tried. The coverage is easily build-able without becoming cake-y. Definitely go check out my post all about cushion foundations if you’re as intrigued as I was!

// Rimmel London Wake Me Up Anti Fatigue SPF 15 (True Ivory). I had heard so many good things about this Rimmel product and couldn’t buy it in the US, or didn’t try hard enough, so when I went to London it was the first thing I bought. This foundation really gives my skin the look of being woken up through semi shimmery particles that make the skin look glow-y without being dewy. If that makes sense. I’ve got fairly oily skin so dewy products generally aren’t my friend. In addition to the product being amazing, the packaging is fantastic for a drug store brand which makes me even happier.

CC Creams:

//Everything you love about a bb cream with the added bonus of color correction, what’s not to love?

//Definitely covers redness better than other foundations

//Fades or comes off easier than other foundation products, doesn’t last all day

//Very lightweight texture (not a con), but that makes it hard to layer for more coverage. Generally a light/medium coverage

My Pics:

// it Cosmetics CC+ Veil Beauty Fluid Foundation (fair). I’ve also talked about this in my cushion foundation post but I do want to reiterate how great this is! Even though the Loreal won in my mind, this is a fantastic cc cream that I still very consistently use. This is perfect for summer for me because of the light coverage. Having a thick layer of foundation in the summer is not what i’m all about. Also, the SPF 50 has me swooning.

// Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream SPF 15 (ivory). I have talked about this cc cream a ton lately and i’m not at all sorry about it. This foundation has such a light, runny consistency that I actually love. It melts into my skin and really evens out all the redness I get in the summer. If you want a little more detail I’ve raved about it here, and here

Finding The Right Foundation For You// Being Leanna

So, what’s the best formula for you?

You have to try them all to find out to find what works best, unfortunately. It’s really hard to find something that works well for your skin. If you’re new to foundations, I highly suggest a bb or cc cream as they are easy to apply and the drugstore versions are amazing. Finding the best formula for you and trying many options can be incredibly fun though!

If you have oilier skin, I highly, highly recommend powder foundations. For dry skin, I personally think BB creams are the way to go. If you have any questions at all about foundations, leave them in the comments! My favorite beauty resource is YouTube so don’t hesitate to watch some beauty gurus as well. There are all sorts of girls out there will every skin type that can really help you find what’s best for you!

Question of the day: What are your favorite foundations?

Favorites From The Week: July 22nd 2

Oh good, all my friends are here

A photo posted by Leanna (@beingleanna) on

It has been a long week. I don’t know about you all but this week has dragged for me. I have been incredibly busy at work, working on one particular project that has been a headache and a half. So, I am especially grateful for a weekend away from my dual monitors.

On a happier note, I have a friend visiting me up at the lake this weekend. I’m incredibly excited to show her around to all of the best spots in town. But, because I’ve got a friend visiting and my eyeballs are tired from looking at spreadsheets all week i’m not sure what the blog will be like next week. I might be MIA. In consideration of that I’m writing up a super-duper edition of Friday 5! Which, surprisingly I haven’t written since the beginning of June, but I digress.

Grab a cup o’ tea and a snack and see what my favorites have been this week!

//Legal Questions You Need To Be Asking About Your Blog- Jade & Oak// I love Jackie’s blog and I especially love that she shares some of her legal knowledge with us to help create better blogs. This mini-series of her’s that she’s starting is going to be incredible. I’ve already bookmarked this post for a week night that I can fully dedicate to auditing my blog. A must read for any blogger.

//A Quick Guide to Houston, Texas- World of Wanderlust// So, I may or may not have mentioned that i’ll be doing a trip to Texas in October with a friend of mine. We plan on hitting Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas so this post all about what you can’t miss in Houston was perfect for me. World of Wanderlust is one of my favorite travel blogs and Brooke has amazing tips for just about anywhere. So, if Houston isn’t your thing, you should still check out her posts.

Internet Finds:

//Nordstrom Sale// So, unless you live under a rock Nordstrom is having it’s annual sale and people are freaking out. I love reading about all of the hype and I especially love to see what people are picking up. I’ll be skipping the sale today but i’ll see if I can grab anything good come the end of the weekend. Let me know what you’re grabbing!

//17 Maps That Will Change The Way You Look At The World Forever- Buzzfeed// As a huge Buzzfeed and travel lover I found this fascinating. Now, I knew that Mercator map strongly skewed the actual sizes of countries but I’ve never seen them moved all around like this. I was very amused by this to say the least. Did ya’ll know that Algeria is the 10th largest country? I sure didn’t.

After reading Mary’s post over on Eat, Drink & Be Mary I scooted right on over to ROMWE.COM and placed an order. I cannot wait to show ya’ll what I got and it was all super inexpensive! I know the quality won’t be top notch but for the prices I paid i’m more than okay with that. Have you guys every shopped on ROMWE before?

Let’s do this.

Guys, if you like cute, sappy, lovey books then these are for you. i loved them both so much and i’ll hopefully be heading to the library very soon to grab some more summer reads. I have so many on my list that I’m thinking about doing a whole book post. Would ya’ll like that?

//Exersise// I would not say i’m hardcore exercising by any means but I have been walking almost every day after work for a few weeks now and I’ve started to add in a bit of jogging as well. Baby steps.

Hope you all have an amazing weekend!!

Summer Beauty Favorites// Being Leanna

Happy Monday!

When I was packing my weekend bag Thursday night I realized that all of the makeup I had been grabbing were things I have yet to talk about on here. The last time I did a beauty favorites or routine the products were completely different. So, while i’m sitting up at the lake relaxing I thought i’d share with ya’ll what i’ve been wearing every day. There are some beauty favorites that i’m loving and some i’m just using to get rid of. I would love to know what your summer beauty favorites are!

Current Beauty Favorites:

I’m really in need of a new, hydrating but not sticky moisturizer and i’d love your help. I’m mostly finished up with my Body Shop Moisturizer that I love but it’s way too heavy for the summer. I recently picked up the Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre from Birchbox with my points but it’s too soon to tell how I really feel about it. Comment below with your favorite moisturizer and help a lady out!

Summer Beauty Favorites// Being Leanna

A couple months ago I picked up this Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara. I had heard so many rave reviews about it. Man, you guys were not wrong, this mascara is fantastic. I’m not the biggest fan of the brush (I generally prefer a rubberized one) but the formula is wonderful. This mascara lasts on my lashes all day without flaking, even on the hottest of days. The formula is great because of how quickly it dries on your lashes. The formula isn’t too wet where you have to be careful with it for a few minutes and it’s not dry enough to have to work to coat all the lashes. Lights, Camera, Lashes is perfect for even the tiniest of baby lashes.

Right now i’m using the Urban Decay 24/7 Waterline Eye Pencil and i’m not really into it. I always line just my waterline so I thought this would be perfect but it’s not as good as the regular 24/7 pencil and it comes in far fewer colors. I’m really just waiting until this is finished before buying a new liner that I like better. What do you guys use?

Now, I will preface this by saying I never wanted to be an eyebrow doer. But, i’ve become one after getting a sample of the Benefit Gimme Brow in my June Birchbox. Having very blonde eyebrows on very pale skin made doing my brows a bit scary at first because everything seemed to make them stand out like crazy. Luckily, the Gimme Brow has a light shade that’s perfect for those blonde brow hairs. A couple swipes of the tiny comb and your brows will be perfect too. I can’t believe I resisted the brow trend for so long.

Summer Beauty Favorites// Being Leanna

You may remember me talking about my new favorite foundation in my Summer Staples Loaded with SPF post. I’ve been using the Bourjois 123 perfect CC cream since I got it in Poland and i’m obsessed. The texture is lightweight which is perfect for the summer months and it has enough coverage to keep redness in check. The CC cream only comes in 4 colors which is a bit of a drawback but it blends so flawlessly with your skin that I think most people would be able to make this work. This also is incredibly moisturizing for a foundation so my skin feels extra nice all day when wearing it.

Another Bourjois product I picked up in Poland is the Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer which i’ve dubbed my war paint. This stuff covers EVERYTHING. i haven’t been this impressed with a concealer, ever. I’ve been dying to try the Kat Von D lock it concealer and this works so well that I don’t have to. But for comparison and research sake I think I might have to buy it anyways :-D. This concealer is super matte which is the finish I prefer with a concealer. While the Bourjois concealer is super high coverage, I only use it for redness and under my eyes. I don’t like to put this on spots just for sanitary reasons. I don’t like my acne concealer and my under eye concealer to be the same.

Summer Beauty Favorites// Being Leanna

I am normally not an eyeshadow person but lately I’ve been trying it out. I picked up this Kiko High Pigment Wed & Dry eyeshadow in pearly rose gold and it’s the perfect shade. First of all, who doesn’t love rose gold? Second of all, it looks fantastic on any skin tone. Third, this Kiko shadow is perfect for those like me who have no eyeshadow skills whatsoever. The formula is very creamy and it’s very pigmented for the price point. Applied all over the lid on its own is how I prefer to use this rose gold shadow but I’m sure it would look way better with a crease color and highlight and all that jazz.

Summer Beauty Favorites// Being Leanna
Lip products

Lip products are always among my beauty favorites but i’ve been especially loving two products lately. One super subtle and one in yo face product. The subtle one is the It Cosmetics Vitality Lip Flush in Je ne sais quoi. You might remember that I gave you my first impressions when I received this. And now, it’s still a favorite. Is the perfect lip balm but better. The lipstick sort of turns into a your lips but better color once on your lips and it’s incredibly hydrating and long lasting.

The in yo face lip product is the Revlon Ultra HD Matte lip color in either Intensity or Spark. Unfortunately the name isn’t on the packaging at all and I cannot remember. This lip color is NEON and I love it. The shade is the perfect electric pink with a blue undertone that helps make your teeth look a teeny bit whiter too. The matte finish is so comfortable and not at all drying on the lips that I often forget i’m wearing anything, it’s that good! Additionally, the sugary, slightly fruity scent is to die for. I don’t know about you guys, but scent is important to me.

Summer Beauty Favorites// Being Leanna

I’ve surprised myself by using a semi shimmery bronzer lately. The NYC Sun N Bronze powder has been a great way to make my face seem tan with just a hint of glow. The different shades within the pan make it easy to go for a lighter bronze or a darker, more “contouring” shade which was a big seller for me. Plus, the price point didn’t hurt either. The NYC Sunny bronzer is also a favorite but, I hadn’t seen it in stores in a while which is how I discovered the Sun N Bronzer. The Physicians Formula bronzer has  had some major hype lately so i’ll be checking that out as a replacement. Shimmer is always included in my beauty favorites for the summer but a matte bronzer would be preferred come fall time (GASP!) so send me your suggestions!

*If you’re a smarty pants and noticed I didn’t mention a blush it’s just because I switch it up every single day and can’t decide on a favorite.

Hope you enjoyed my current summertime beauty favorites, don’t forget to let me know yours below!

Budapest: Stopover Guide 4

A Stopover Guide to Budapest// Being Leanna

Szia! Welcome to my stopover guide to Budapest, Hungary. As i’ve mentioned in my recent posts about Krakow and Vienna my trip was very fast paced and I was only ever in a city for 48 hours maximum so I’ve been sharing the most important (in my opinion) things to do in these cities when you don’t have time on your side. So, sit back, grab a notepad (or better yet use the icon on the left and pin this post) and jot down some ideas for when you go and visit Budapest, Hungary!

Budapest, Hungary:

Language: Hungarian (loads of people speak English)

Currency: Forint ($1=283 Forint currently)

Location: Central Europe, Northern Hungary

A Stopover Guide to Budapest// Being Leanna

Where To Stay:

Wombats City Hostel

Budapest, Kiraly u. 20, 1061 Hungary

Phone: +36 1 883 5005

If you’re only going to be in town for a little bit, stay in a hostel, and especially stay in this hostel. The rooms are nice, and very centrally located. The breakfast was pretty crap (as I’ve found most hostel breakfasts are) but there is a Costa right across the street and a grocery store just down the block. The room was extremely clean and the bathroom was actually pretty decent. A  girl in my group and I lucked out with a double room instead of a quad. It was so great to be able to spread out. (Another tidbit? Don’t do your laundry here, tons of people on my trip had to hang their clothes all over their rooms because the dryers didn’t work)

Budapest is very walk-able but there are plenty of public transportation options: cable cars, bus, metro, cab and even water taxi during the summer season. Budapest is so easy to navigate by foot that public transportation is really only needed if the weather isn’t great or your feet are sore from a long day of exploring.

The metro cars aren’t super big and there aren’t many of them to a train so keep that in mind if you’ll be riding around during peak hours. Also, unlike in Vienna, DEFINITELY get the ticket validated at the boxes in the station. Workers do come aboard and check tickets so be sure it’s validated correctly.

Things To Eat:

When in Hungary you must eat Goulash. Goulash is a meat and vegetable soup with paprika and it is to die for. I may have went back for seconds.

Do not ask me to pronounce that. This is a pretty predominant street food in Hungary. It is very similar to American fried dough, but way better. The spun dough cooked over coals and coated in almost whatever you want. I highly recommend getting the cinnamon sugar coating. I may have substituted a meal or two for these which is why I don’t have any other food recommendations. #sorrynotsorry

Things to do:

A Stopover Guide to Budapest// Being Leanna

//River cruise

This was probably the most fun I had while in Budapest. Something about water relaxes me. Anyways. There are about a thousand different cruises to chose from, just make sure to go on a dinner cruise around sunset for the best experience. The views are amazing and the meals are buffet style so you can eat at your own leisure. I suggest starting off by taking pictures in the sunlight (that magical twilight hour). After, head to the dining room for dinner and then go back outside for some stunning night time photos. Do not miss getting shorts of the parliament building at night. This might be the most beautiful building i’ve ever seen.

A Stopover Guide to Budapest// Being Leanna

//Walking tour

Speaking of parliament, don’t miss a guided walking tour through Budapest’s streets. You will learn so much about Hungary’s tumultuous past. Hungarians are some very resilient people. Our tour lasted 3 hours and it was phenomenal. This particular tour ended with a museum trip to the House of Terror. If you’re looking to delve deeper into Hungarian history this museum is fantastic. Walking along the Danube you’ll stroll up to 60 pairs of iron cast shoes to memorialize the Jews that were shot into the river during the Nazi German occupation. The beautiful memorial sobered up even the silliest of those in our group.

A Stopover Guide to Budapest// Being Leanna

*Unfortunately, I have no idea who our walking tour through as I was a bit careless in this city about getting the names of places we went. I was too caught up in wandering the streets and taking in all of the sights to pay attention to much else. Trip Advisor (not sponsored, but I wish!) has a plethora of different walking tours to recommend.

A Stopover Guide to Budapest// Being Leanna

//Széchenyi Thermal Bath

To unwind after a long walking tour a stop at a Budapest’s famous baths is in order. Széchenyi is right off of the metro line which is perfect for tired feet. The supposed healing powers of the mineral water will make even the sorest of bodies feel better. There are 3 outdoor pools with one of them being body temperature. Body temperature water is so strange and amazing all at once. Don’t stop there though, head inside and check out the other baths and saunas. A word of caution though, bring your own towel or you will pay extra.

//Ruins Bars

When you fancy a drink while in Budapest one must go to a ruins bar. There are a ton of them located all over the city and they tend to pop up and move often i’m told. I’m embarrassed to say that the only pictures I have of the ruins bar I went to are not of anything cool but of ‘I love NY’ stickers that I plastered everywhere. So, when you happen to come across Szimpla Kert think of me whenever you see an I love NY sticker. ** Bonus, if you stay at the Wombats hostel it’s right up the road :-]

A Stopover Guide to Budapest// Being Leanna

Fun Facts:

//The Parliament building pictured above is the 3rd largest in the entire world.

//That same building was designed by a man who won a contest. The two runners up had their buildings erected just behind the parliament building.

//Bars are allowed to be open 24 hours a day. So if you fancy that morning beer with your breakfast, or you just want to prolong the party you have endless access to do so.

//Hungary was occupied by Germany and then by the Soviets, they held their first free election in 1990.

Question of the day: Have you been to Budapest? If not, would you like to go?

Monday Motivation: GO FOR IT 8

Monday Motivation: Go For It// Being Leanna

Where “go for it” all began. Neither of us ever thought it would evolve from a joke to real life advice but it has.

Happy Monday Ya’ll!

I hope everybody had a better weekend than me. I spent most of it in bed or on the couch with a cold so i’m especially in need of some Monday motivation this week. I present to you, my life motto:

Go for it!

Everybody needs a life motto and everybody needs a little humor so I combined the two and have been using this as my motto/motivation for any situation for 9 years now.

I jokingly started saying go for it my freshman year of college (my first college roommate and I pictured above, weren’t we the attractive pair?) whenever my roommate would ask me virtually anything. I still say it all the time but nowadays I take it a bit more seriously. Except when that roommate calls or texts me with questions. Then, go for it is always the answer.

Monday Motivation: Go For It// Being Leanna

Had I not just gone for it, I would have spent a whole day alone in London instead of with this beautiful lady!

To me, Go For It! simply means to not overthink something and just do it. I’m a person who likes to plan everything down to the very last detail and reminding myself to go for it gets me to be a bit more spontaneous. Go for it is there to provide the motivation to do things that make me a bit uncomfortable and to get me out of my box of regularity.

How to use “go for it”:

// If you’ve been contemplating something for a while, just stop thinking and GO FOR IT! Ex) Last year when I spontaneously moved to South Carolina because I had been dying to move south for years.

Monday Motivation: Go For It// Being Leanna

I would have never, ever tried snails had it not been for my “go for it” attitude when in France

// If you’re at a restaurant and don’t know what to order or always get the same thing just GO FOR IT and pick something new or different. Ex) I was super unsure about eating escargot but, I ordered it anyways and it was delicious!

// If you’re stuck when debating a few different options just GO FOR IT! If you’re still debating you like all your options well enough. Just chose one! You’re going to like whatever option you get. Ex) When booking a hotel in San Antonio this past week I was debating a room with a view much closer to the river walk or a cheaper hotel. I decided I had the extra $ and booked the hotel with the better proximity and the view. I’m already over the moon with my choice.

Monday Motivation: Go For It// Being Leanna

I would have never gone to Venice, Italy and met all of these amazing girls had I held myself back when I was nervous about traveling alone.

Rules for using “go for it”:

The first rule of “go for it”, is that you don’t talk about “go for it”. Just kidding. The first rule is understanding it’s not meant to encourage stupid or dangerous behavior. I may jokingly say “go for it” at dumb things but my friends and I all know better.

The second rule is that you must say it with earnest every time. Say it loud and say it proud, otherwise it’s not as fun.

In all seriousness though, don’t ever let your worries hold you back. Worrying can prevent you from doing amazing things. I’m the first one to admit that it’s easier to sit home than to go out and do things that are hard or uncomfortable but if I always chose the easy route i’d never have made a lot of the friends I did. I never would have experienced so many new foods, and i’d especially never be able to say that I had gone to Europe twice!

Now get out there and GO FOR IT!

Question of the day: What’s your Monday Motivation?
